On the high ground of the Greensand Ridge are some hundreds of acres of common land, through which winds a section
of the Greensand Way. Lower down is farmland, whose use has changed over the years - from yesterday's hops, orchards and soft fruit to the sheep, cereals and oilseed rape of today.
 
The local farmers do excellent work in preserving the rich diversity of plants and animals indigenous to the area; and since their farmland edges
into the very heart of Crockham Hill, it forms a major part of the village character - the genuine character of a living, working country community. .......>
